How do I get assigned a new phone number with a pre-paid mobile phone?

I’ve never used a pre-paid mobile phone, so forgive my ignorance. But can I keep the online drugs same phone but be assigned a new phone number to use monthly or as needed.
I need to have the option to change numbers frequently.
call phone carrier(eg tracfone,boost,etc).
my daughter had a pre pay and she just called the company and they charged her but gave her the number she wanted
